Basic Life Support & Heartsaver CPR Instructor course
Objective:
The instructor candidates will be able to teach a BLS or Heartsaver CPR course as well as First Aid & Bloodborne Pathogen
courses using the video and lesson maps that are part of the appropriate BLS & HS course materials. Instructor candidates
will also be able to use the new testing materials to conduct skills testing.
The instructor course is an intensive course for those individuals who have already
successfully demonstrated excellent skills in the discipline-specific provider course. Instructor candidate should
exemplify integrity, demonstrate strong ethics, communicate clearly, and model a dedication to quality training.
Course Prerequisites:
Instructor candidates must meet certain requirements before
taking the instructor course. Before attending the BLS classroom portion of an instructor course, all instructor candidates
must:
- Be at least 16 years
of age
- Be accepted by an AHA Training
Center before enrolling in an Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with
that Training Center.
- Have a current/official
AHA BLS Provider course Completion card or Heartsaver adult, child, infant CPR and First Aid completion card.
- Demonstrate excellent skills in this discipline-specific
provider course with the Training Center conducting the Instructor course.
- Complete the application form listing the
AHA Training Center that you would like to affiliate with as an instructor along with a copy of your current CPR card
and copy of medical license (MD,RN, PA,EMT etc.) if applicable. Return form along with your payment
to CPST. You must be accepted by the training center before completing any of the prerequisites. CPST will
email information on the prerequists that need to be completed prior to the classroom course. You will receive your
instructor material at your skills session.
Instructor course has 3 parts.
1. Successfully
complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, including both the online portion and 6 hour classroom/hands-on session.
2. Successfully
be monitored teaching within 6 months of completing the hands-on session of the BLS Instructor Essentials Course (Training
Center Coordinators may require additional monitoring, if needed)
3. Also, all AHA
Instructors must register and be confirmed on the AHA Instructor Network to receive their AHA Instructor ID #, which must
be used to issue course completion cards.

Cost: $300.00 which includes Online Essentials Course
& Instructor Manual. Checks can be made out to CPST
Courses offerered in the spring and fall each year. Next course will be October 18,
2019 08:30 AM. You must register and pay for the course 45 days prior to classroom course. Make checks payable to CPST.
Class size is limited, spot will not be held without payment.
