Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers - BLS CPR
The American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider Course is widely recognized as the CPR card of healthcare workers. The course is intended for certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed professionals that work in the field of healthcare.

Common participants of this course include physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, medical residents and fellows, medical students, students of medical technology programs, certified nursing assistants, aides, and others who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a healthcare provider-level CPR course.

This course includes the following for adults, children, and infants:

  • Recognizing Medical Emergencies
  • Accessing the Appropriate Emergency Resources
  • Providing CPR (including 1 and 2-rescurer scenarios)
  • Providing Ventilations with a Bag-Mask Device (BVM)
  • Relief of a Foreign-Body Airway Obstruction (Choking)
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

The full certification course is designed for providers who are seeking certification for the first time or those who have let their previous certification expire.

There are two options for card renewal. The traditional in-class renewal course is designed for those who have taken the course and whose card is about to expire. A new option, the e-Learning skills session, employs a hybrid educational model. Cognitive portions of the course are completed online prior to scheduling a brief educational & testing session held at the Training Center. The e-Learning option is a convenient option for adult learners, but is only recommended for healthcare providers who provide resuscitation on a regular basis as part of their duties of work.
